PSFK: The New Strategic Design Agency Model?

Lateral thinking is a thought process that involves problem solving in a non-linear fashion, breaking paradigms for enhanced results. As opposed to the standard, step-by-step approach to problem solving, lateral thinking involves creative solutions that seek to break out of the traditional norms of thought. PSFK, an online site devoted to enhancing creativity is using lateral thinking methods to change design, and ultimately “to inspire people”, according to founder Piers Fawkes. The site features bits of inspiration from a variety of sources online, as well as data and trends for companies to use in marketing and positioning efforts. The company focuses on sourcing inspiration, trends, and data from a community, as opposed to creating it behind closed doors. In the video link the author of Ideas Will Travel interviews the site’s founder as they discuss the differences between lateral and literal inspiration, as well as PSFK changing the standard for strategic design consultancies through lateral thinking methods.
We could be a future agency model. (Piers Fawkes, PSFK) from Mario Gamper (Ideas will travel) on Vimeo.
